Getting Rid of That Money Monster
There’s JUST AS MUCH MAGIC in nailing down that money monster as there is in your Money Honey. After so many years and so many hundreds of sessions, I’ve come to believe that you can’t really get your money honey without fully summoning that money monster first. YOU NEED THE POLARITY. That’s what makes this Alchemy. But getting rid the monster can be the hardest part.
Interestingly enough, I received two emails talking about opposite challenges–one has her Money Honey, the other doesn’t–and I have the same answer for both:
“Morgana– I have had no problem coming up with my hot, sexy, money honey super hero. What I am struggling with is getting rid of my money monster — a hideously scary, relentless, crazy, homeless bag lady. I’m divorced and came from a family with lots of love but very limited means and I’m still dealing with fear of being out of the street one day – rather irrational really butI can’t get this horrid monster gone. Please help! I’ll send along my picture-board of my money honey, if I can send an attachment sometime — you’d like it! THANKS so much! Love ya, M”
My response:
Hi M. The problem is you never really got rid of the Money Monster before you created your Money Honey. You need to start over, make the monster worse than he’s ever been before, and get rid of him for good! Keep reading…
“How do you go about getting past the intellectual part of the mind when creating a Money Honey?
I’ve got one in mind (no pun intended) – think Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch – but I keep thinking, would Gregory Peck really want to be my Money Honey? Or, I try coming up with someone else (totally fictional) and I still can’t get it through my emotional mind?
My inner critic keeps saying, ‘yeah, but….(insert argument of choice).’ I know I should smack my inner critic upside the head & tell her to shut up. I’ve tried that. She just continues to come up with arguments as to why that particular money honey won’t work.
Any thoughts on how to get past this? Thanks! V”
Dear V,
I’m so proud of you for RECOGNIZING this! This tells me that 1) you really want this change and 2) you’ll know the difference and it’ll be that much more incredible for you.
Your inner critic is right. That particular Money Honey – or any other, I suspect – isn’t going to work.
Why? You didn’t really get rid your Money Monster. Your Money Honey will be real and wonderful and powerful to the exact extent that your monster is real and terrible and powerful. Actually, your Money Honey will be more powerful, but you won’t know that until you complete the process.
You can’t skip any steps.
* Step 1: uncover all the negative experiences that could contribute to the existence of a terrible, real, tangible monster. I’ve heard things that would curl your toes. Most people don’t, or can’t go deep enough on their own, and they shouldn’t have to.
* Step 2: create this monster. I talk a lot about this in my teleclasses — what if your monster looks like a parent, or looks like a cloud, etc. Neither of those will work. They don’t go away.
* Step 3: completely and irrevocably get rid of him. All gone. No trace.
Step 1 and 2 suck. Not fun. Scary. I wouldn’t do them alone. There’s only so far you can go on your own safely. Financial Alchemy is, at its heart, a SHAMANISTIC journey. You need a guide who KNOWS how to take you there and bring you back for the sake of something so much more wonderful on the other side.
So V, you’re right. Your new money is a nice idea, but he’s not the real thing.
If you are really, really serious about changing your relationship with money with Financial Alchemy, and you’ve gone as far as you can take yourself… then you may be a good candidate for coaching–privately or in my group program.
I have an advantage: I CREATED this process and have done it successfully over a thousand times. I can hear your money before you do.
There comes a point where information and advice isn’t enough. For example I can tell you how to pole vault. I can tell you EVERYTHING about how to hold the pole, how far away to stand, when to jump, how to position your body as you go over the pole… but until you’ve experienced it, it’s just a nice idea. You haven’t vaulted any poles.
That’s why you hire a coach.
Warmest regards,
Morgana Rae

What if you have a fairly decent relationship with money already but want to make it awesome- where is the monster in that?
Hi Karen. I wouldn’t do Financial Alchemy with you at this time. I don’t like to do this process with people who are feeling neutral, lukewarm, or “content” in their relationship. There’s not enough motivation.
I wouldn’t rule it out in the future.
I’ve been life coaching an immensely wealthy client for YEARS. (Keep in mind I’ve been a life and business coach for fifteen years. I’m an “old-timer.”) This client didn’t have an emotional charge around money until very recently. An issue came up that revealed her monster, and when he finally showed up he was HUGE! And when we got rid of him, all the other things we’d been working on fell into place.
Financial Alchemy is only an access point to transform the rest of a client’s life. It’s convenient that my clients have such astonishing financial results. It’s great for marketing.
Morgana,
I have tons of ideas but none that I can see making me income right now. I am underwater in debt, working a full time job making good money, but my passion is to be a life coach. My entire family is suffering because of the inability to move out of this sinking ship.
In a space where just buying food is a stretch, I need results now!
If you could name the number one thing I could do to get help now, what would it be?
Thanks,
Eli
Dear Eli,
If it’s any comfort, I’ve seen many, many other people in your position who’ve come out the other side in fantastic shape. As one reader wrote to me, “Money is not a number. It’s a relationship.”
If you and I were working together, we’d create a “Money Honey” who would tell you exactly what you need to do.
If that doesn’t make sense to you, the first thing you should do is download my MP3 interview with Stuart Tan.
Warmest regards,
Morgana Rae
Dear Morgana,
I created a Money Honey, and it told me to go out and buy a Blue Clock. The thought of the process of actually buying something I want to buy with money, feels really good!
However since things have been popping up in my experience I have felt that I hadn’t gotten rid of my Money Monster so I set to work on that.
I know I found it because it scares me and makes me sick to my stomach. If I eat my stomach hurts, and I felt if I didn’t give into the feelings I couldn’t or wouldn’t ever have what I wanted.
Then I took a step back last night from the feeling and realized letting the thoughts and feelings that were arising, bother me wasn’t getting me anywhere at all.
I nailed it down to being very VERY scary and hurtful and bossy and pushy. Always telling me what I can or can’t have unless I do what I am told to do.
I realize now what it all is when I really took a GOOD look at it. I was able to bring it to see the light of truth, though it is still there I have accepted it and that it is fine for the moment.
I have soo much gratitude for you and what you do.
Thank you so much for this article because it helped me to get to where I am.
In LoVe and Gratitude.
Create a brilliant NoW.
Great monster pic!
Yeah my money monsters are stubbornly persistent. They got staying power! I used the plural form because multiple monsters is what I seem to have.
I wrote a myriad negative beliefs around money and they formed at least two major monsters that have very different ‘qualities’ (or maybe I should say vices?) 😉
My question is how do I distill my money-monster army/the multi-headed beast into a single, tangible monster than I can see clearly enough to target and kill? …. And follow-up question, how does one ‘kill’ something that we’ve given a human form to – even if it does have a ‘monster’ form inside? I just can’t bring myself to do it!!!!!
I decided to sculpt and literally cut away and destroy my Money Monster.
It felt “naughty/slightly evil” and very, very, very satisfying in a refreshingly non-NewAge way!!! I whooooped with Joy when I thrust in the final blow!
The photos of the process are here….

Now to connect with my Money Whore – Black-haired and delicious. She keeps leaving strands of hair all over the house to remind me …. yes, really! Found one on my shoulder the other day (no physical explanation!)
Thank you Morgana! This is WOW!!!!
John Overton
Hi John. I love the first half. But I want to tweak the concept of a “Money Whore.” I don’t think that will serve you (or your relationship with money). Why? No woman wants to be a whore, and that’s not a relationship built on reciprocity, mutual respect and love. When I was interviewed by United Press International, I actually said that one of the reasons for our global economic crisis is that people have been treating money like their whore. I strongly encourage you to re-evaluate this relationship, and see what would make your Money feel happy, loved, and safe to stay with you. And thank you so much for posting!
