This week’s invasion of Ukraine feels very personal. My family came from Odessa, Ukraine. My great grandmother was there during the revolt of the battleship Potemkin, and she witnessed the birth of the Russian revolution. She packed up the family and left Odessa, Ukraine for Shanghai a century ago. They purchased train tickets… but the train engine took off and left all the cars behind! After almost a year of walking and hitching rides across Asia, my great grandmother gave surprise birth to my grandmother when the family arrived in Shanghai. She was so ragged and starved from the journey … Continue reading

What is the hardest experience you’ve ever overcome in your life? I would LOVE to read your experience in the comments below. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately,… the INCREDIBLE resilience and resourcefulness of human beings. The UNBELIEVABLE experiences we overcome. The unexpected treasures on the other side of our hardest experiences. Especially when circumstances look challenging today, it’s so helpful to remember where we’ve been and what we’ve successfully survived before now. I posted on my Facebook profile page and asked, “What is the hardest life experience you’ve ever overcome?” I’ve been awed and humbled by the … Continue reading
First Lady Michelle Obama said, “I’m exhausted by a heartbreak that never seems to stop.” I imagine you’re feeling this way too. BLACK LIVES MATTER. I know you know this. But even good human beings get things wrong. Guaranteed. We have to keep trying to do right, listen for feedback, apologize and adjust and do better. Myself included. Over and over again. That’s life. That’s how we evolve. I came across this great video: “5 Tips For Being an Ally.” It’s quick, easy, friendly, and only 3 and a half minutes: Blessings to you,

Anything that has to do with music. Gardening, especially weeding. Growing food. Tapping. Scents that make you happy. Pulling oracle cards (I like a three card spread: 1)What do I need to know about this situation? 2) What should I do? 3) What is the outcome?) Yoga. Sunshine. Magnesium and CBD oil at night, for better sleep. Lion’s Mane mushrooms for brain health and mood. Animals … Continue reading
I had a really nice chat with my deceased dad today. Now I’m all choked up and grateful. Some context: One year ago today my father released his long suffering body. I had received a message in a dream a few weeks earlier and changed my plans in order to fly across the country and see him before leaving to lead my retreat in Bali. It was clear to me from that visit that he no longer benefited from being in a body. I told him I loved him, and it was okay for him to leave. I … Continue reading
Would you like to create fast change? Here’s how: make space for what you want! Every time you settle, you are telling the universe that “this is good enough,” and you are telling yourself, “I don’t deserve better.” If that’s your message, of course you’ll keep getting more of the same! When you’re life is full of settling for less, you aren’t leaving room for what you really want. Continue reading
Life happens. I’m writing today because I see so many people are going through dramatic life events. A lot of my friends have joined me in the “dead dad club” this year, or suffered comparable losses.
Coping skills and positive thinking are awesome and helpful, and yet I really think we need to make some space to include the reality of grief and challenge as sacred and inevitable parts of our journey.
For that reason I’m going to be transparent about my own process… Continue reading
