Discovering the Truth About Women and Aging
About aging as a woman… it’s nothing like I was led to expect.
I’m barely a sneeze away from turning 49.
I’m losing hearing in my right ear.
My distance and reading vision are a mess.
I’m way beyond fatter than I’ve ever been in my life.
And I feel an emotional confidence and happiness
and freedom beyond anything I experienced when I was younger.
Every decade gets better.
This is not what I expected, especially as a woman.
I see the same thing with my female friends and clients:
life gets better as we get older.
We’ve all gone through hell, learned the lessons, and
don’t have to repeat the same naive, foolish, bad choices.
As young women we’re all about pleasing–parents,
teachers, lovers, everybody.
As we get older and have less time left, we take less crap
and focus on what matters.
We get more comfortable with our imperfection.
We become better–and wiser–relationship partners.
Or we love being independent.
By the way… I posted something like this on Facebook last week. So far I’ve received almost 500 responses–hundreds of women sharing that life gets even better in our 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.
How liberating is that?!!!!
I was definitely sold a bill of goods about how awful aging would be as a woman.
Turns out real life is very different.
As we close in on shedding the calendar year 2015…
Take a look at some of the stories you picked up
during your lifetime that no longer ring true?
I’m also curious to hear from our men.
Share those stories–and your truth–BELOW.
(Because I guarantee there are other people–women AND men–who will benefit from questioning those same, outdated beliefs.)
To your abundance and prosperity,
PS. Part of my motivation in sharing this with you is I see what my stepdaughter is going through at 16. She is drop dead gorgeous, smart, funny, responsible, wonderful… and life is pretty hard for her right now. And I remember how hard life was when I was her age, with some similar circumstances. I really want her to know it gets better.
Please share this with any women and girls you know who need to hear this or have something to add to the conversation!
Thank you!
