I Hear Dead People
Samhain (the Celtic name for Halloween) is the High Holy Day at my mother’s house. This should come as no surprise: after all, she named me Morgana.
Here’s a family tradition that you can try for yourself.
As Witching Hour approaches (midnight) gather your friends and family around the cauldron. One at a time, invite your favorite dead people to join the circle. These can be family members, heroes, pets… I invite John Lennon and Vincent Price every year. Name who you want and NO OTHER. It’s a nice touch if you can bring their favorite foods, just to be hospitable.
When all your party is assembled, tell your guests (out loud or in silence) whatever it is you want to share with them. Then think of a question or issue you’re facing, and ask your dead loved ones for advice. Listen for their response.
When every person in your circle has had a turn, join hands and thank your etheric friends for joining you. Invite them to stay and eat or to leave for other parties. Stand together, say “The circle is open, never to be broken. Merry meet. Merry part. And merry meet again.” Release hands, eat the food, and party!
