What’s your verb?
Years ago I was taking a terrific Reunion seminar with Alex Mandossian and the other graduates of his programs… and one of the exercises he took us through was, “What’s your verb?”
It’s a verb, a doing, that permeates who you are and your impact on the world.
For instance,
- Steve Jobs innovates.
- Sigmund Freud analyzes.
- Ernest Hemingway writes.
- Oprah Winfrey elevates.
- Richard Branson improves.
- Jim Carrey performs.
This can be a really deep exercise. And a fabulous resource when you’re feeling lost, confused, or hard on yourself. It reminds you who you are.
My verb is “transmute.” It’s what I do automatically. It’s my perspective on life. It’s the essense of my work: transmuting the ugliest, most painful, most unlovable, leaden human experiences into gold. Into love itself.
