My Dark Secret, with before and after pictures
I’m going to share some personal stuff today…
To say I’m not a naturally tidy person is like saying Michael Phelps can swim a little. Major understatement.
For years now I’ve had a dark secret: my office.
It was he place I dumped papers and locked the door. I called it “the scary room.”
I didn’t like it. My Money Honey didn’t like it. I knew I was totally out of integrity. How could I treat my business with such disrespect?
So I took my own teaching to heart, and last week I did something DRASTIC.
I knew I needed help, someone who could help me do what I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) do on my own. So I found a professional organizer: Renata Martin.
I felt so sorry for her. I thought this room was beyond help. It would take weeks.
And in only HALF a day we transformed my disaster into a dream room.
Take a look:
Doesn’t this look like the sweetest spot? I love love love the windows in this room!
So here’s my challenge to YOU:
What’s been bugging you, or weighing you down, or not feeling good, that you’re ready to handle?
Please share your experiences and commitments below!

Not being able to give those close to me the kind of financial help that they need to get important things done in their lives. I’ve done some but I feel let down that I can’t do more at this time
Thank you for opening up your “dark room” and sharing the process. I’ve been putting off the organisation of my office, because I can’t imagine where to begin. I will take some ‘before during and after’ photos and your story has inspired me to get it done. I know several people who are great at organising, and have already offered to help. It’s something I thought I had to face myself. Now, I’m going to call in the cavalry!
Oh, the office is beautiful! What a fabulous space! On so many levels my entire house is bugging me. I have some form of clutter in every room. These pics inspire me! I am starting today to work on one room at a time until peace and order are restored.
Great Job!!! I’m in much the same position as Pat – my whole apartment is this way. Have cleared a lot – moving from a house to an apartment, but so very much more needs to go! Thanks for the inspiration!
I have been living in my moms house, without money in the biggest messy room. All of my belongings are piled up, clothing, books, kitchen utensils etc waiting until I get a place of my own again. My moms fed up, I can’t stand living like this anymore, we all get depressed and I need good vibes to keep doing what I love doing, upcycling clothes! I’m making a commitment now to clean up my act, to make space so I can sew and have a good space to hang out with my kid and boyfriend. The other place will come soon after, I can just feel it!!!
The room looks great!! My Money Honey has nothing but space to relax and help with decisions. We are in a new apartment with no furniture. I’m starting all over again and he can’t wait to see my creative decorations. Enjoy your new tidy room.
Your pictures arrived in Divine Timing. Before I went to bed last night I made a list of what was left in my stalled de-cluttering project. Where to begin… I put blank planning sheets on my desk to remind me to come up with an overall strategy today. Seeing the planning sheets this morning, I groaned and decided to check my e-mail instead. Your pictures are just the inspiration I need to get this project moving again. Thanks for giving me the vision.
Kudos to you Morgana! I did something similar to my whole house just before Christmas. Was holding on to too much stuff, I was not using. I went through it all and gave it to the Salvation Army. I felt so much lighter. It also made cleaning my house so much easier 🙂
I use to believe that I needed permission to throw things away. Then I needed one of those information saver machines to keep all the info still in contact before I threw it away. Then I found three more boxes of papers to go thru before I even started my project of clearing my room or office. I finally realized with your article that I am still running from fear of not having everything I need to succeed! Well, I am throwing away today! The permission came from me who realized that EVERTHING I NEED TO SUCCED IS IN ME, not outside of me. Funny how someones secret can open your own. Thank you Morgana! Love watching you! On to a clarified life! Wahooo!
ok Morgana you have inspired me. It’s also my office that seems to collect clutter./ Everyday I say I am cleaning off my desk and every night whenI go to bed it looks exactly the same. When clients come over I need to move stuff off the chairs so they can sit down. Yikes! So today will be the day!! I will take before an after photos too.
I know when my home is cluttered and messy it hurts my head and when it’s neat, cleaned and everything put away It’s so relaxing and i can feel myself just sigh into my being. Ahhhhhh feels so good
To get my workspace to look like your BEFORE pictures would take at least a week…. Unfortunately, I don’t have an office/studio, so I can’t shut the door on it, either.
For me, it wasn’t so much organizing my office, but rather keeping my house clean. Most of my clients come to my home office. So I always felt pressure to have a clean home. My Money Honey kept telling me to hire someone to clean my house. I felt that I couldn’t “afford” it. After I lot of back and forth with my Money Honey I got that I didn’t have to have someone come every week. I could afford to have someone come once a month. Then miraculously this amazing woman came into my life who was willing to clean my house once a month. I love her and I love how the house feels when she is finished….so does my Money Honey.:)
Choke, cough, sputter try to talk…What my inspiration is like me? how normal!
Thank you for the motivati9on, I can often feel the feng shui tides that flow around here, and put things away where they belonged…. but your action inspired house cleaning inside of the many rooms of my mind. And being creative was one of my favorite things so I auditioned for a part in a community play first time in forty years. Ah you inspiire just in day to day breathing…
Thanks!
I just moved into my daughters house, and my room is a disaster zone! I also need to create a creative corner for myself. My money honey is trying to be patient, but I can tell he is not comfortable so doesn’t feel like hanging around much. I need to change that, and I will start today!
Yes, this too is a thing of mine! My office is an embarrasment to me too. When people “pop” in to say “Hi” I quickly back them out the door! It’s frighteningly full of stacks of papers and boxes of stuff (sort of half storage shed/half office)
But, it’s too cold in there now…and in summer it’s too hot…and in spring I’d rather be outside…One problem is I can’t find bills to pay so I wait until the places call me and then I pay my bills…don’t want to think about or mention taxes that need to be prepared for and done…YUK! Thank you for this nudge…I will put on my coat and mittens and get to work!
I worked with a professional organizer back in 2006 after a divorce. It was my bedroom that looked like your office. I learned so much from her and am now able to be in control of my life, home and personal space. I applaud your efforts here because I’ve been there, and know how hard it can be to ask for help! The room looks fantastic!
