Last Day of Wood Snake/Year of Shedding
Today is the last day of the Chinese year of the Wood Snake.
Snakes shed.
The lesson of the last year was letting go. Letting go of loved ones who died, letting go of relationships that changed, letting go of things (so many things), letting go of beliefs and assumptions that are no longer helpful.
And this has been going on at an epic scale.
Snakes are flexible.
Last Friday we donated the last of my dearly departed Mother In Law Amy’s possessions after half a year of donating, one large estate sale, and then more donating.
It’s finally ALL GONE! (Except for a few things we’re keeping, like the piano and bench.)

It makes me so happy to give a second life to what Amy loved, and save as much as we can from becoming trash. I hate waste, and I want to honor artistry.
The Chinese Snake loves generosity and the finer things in life.
Last week I donated some vintage ceramics and crystal bowls to a “White Elephant” auction for the Los Angeles Assistance League to raise money for new clothes, books, and toys for homeless homeless children.
The rest of the furniture, china, paintings, books, dolls, fountains, clocks, etc, were hauled away for a nearby thrift store run by a local charity.
When I look at photos of things that are now gone, my heart aches. (Part of me wanted to keep it all.)
And letting go and making space is necessary for moving forward.

What a blessing of abundance it is to be able to give things away!
I’m very excited about the Fire Horse year that begins tomorrow.
The horse brings forward momentum…
All that’s left is to finish the clean up, painting and repairs.
And then make it our home for the next two year cycle.
