On April 8, 2015, I bought my first house. It’s a magical house.

We have been so happy here.

I love the neighborhood.

• I just attended an “avocado harvest” party in a neighbor’s backyard, picking all the fruit we could from the ginormous tree, chatting for hours with neighbors, taking home large bags of fresh avocados.
• Every year in November I declare my own “persimageddon,” and I invite all my neighbors to take all the persimmon fruit they can from my own over-large tree, and then I encourage them to take even more.
• We have donation-based yoga in a nearby park every morning… the best way to start the day and make new friends.

And yes, the weather here is generally perfect. People are friendly. We’ve become total foodies, too. I also appreciate easy access to the beach: I just park on the street and swim wherever I like every day in the summer. I don’t think a single day has gone by in 9 years in which I haven’t said, “We’re so lucky.”

And we’re giving all this up! For now.

Husband and I are heading back to Los Angeles on this 9 year anniversary of setting up our first home together, here in Long Beach. It’s time to be closer to family. We’re keeping (and renting) the house and look forward to returning when the time is right.
