Why Miracles are Lame

As I was going through your notes I came across one statement that stopped me in my tracks: "I pray for this for me... a miracle."

I want so much MORE for you than a miracle!

I say this even though I'm the miracle lady. You're probably reading me right now because you heard or read about some of the incredible things that came about in my life or the lives of my clients.

Miracles are a double edged sword: on on side you may get out of a jam, have a nice little reprieve from disaster, or get a really nice gift out of nowhere. The flip side is you aren't any more powerful or in control of your life when miracles come from the outside.

Praying for a money miracle is like praying for continued helplessness. BE the miracle. Do what needs to be done.

Anxiety moments are the GREATEST OPPORTUNITY to learn that new thing or make that inner shift that takes you to a whole new level of personal power. My favorite--and most lucrative--question to ask is, "Money, I'm feeling anxious. What do you want me to do so I can feel less anxious?" I listen for my (personified) Money's response and DO IT.

And if I can't hear my "Money Honey," I start the Financial Alchemy process all over again from scratch:

1) uncover my hidden reasons for protecting myself from money
2) personify my money monster
3) eliminate my money monster
4) meet my new "Money Honey"
5) ask my MH what he wants from me
6) take a concrete, measurable action to make my MH happy.

And THAT'S when I get my big money miracles... and I learn something along that way that makes more powerful than before.

Everyone else will tell you about the positive power of prayer, blah blah blah. I think prayer is handiest for things like short lines at the DMV, wishing your stalker true love and mental health ELSEWHERE, and visualizing love and health as you cuddle your cat at the vet.

But praying for financial rescue sucks. It makes you the victim, the princess in the tower. Money's not here to rescue you... especially rescue you from yourself. Your money is here to be your partner, because he (or she) loves you and sees how powerful you really are. Money doesn't know how to be with you when you play small.

    Hey Morgana,

Good points! The intent behind the prayer seems to me important. If you ask from a place of needing to be rescued, then you've given up your power and resourcefulness. If you ask for guidance, then you're partnering with 'spirit' or your intuition or whatever you want to call it but... you have to take action on the feedback you receive.

Another example is hoping the law of attraction (or The Secret) will work without the action piece.

Congratulations on your new home--not a miracle but a celebration. And thanks for the reminder of the process of financial alchemy.

Thanks Morgana! Empowering and absolutely true. This resonated with me powerfully and is a great big reminder that I AM the one I have been waiting for.

    Namaste.

Thank you, Morgana~I love how the universe works, because I had this realization earlier this afternoon and it was very affirming and helpful to read your take on it + the reminder of the financial alchemy process.

    Congratulations on your new home!

OMG, this is the BEST! Thank you!! So clear . . . And thank you for the mini-session, oh how I wish I could work with you further. Your one moment of clarity has shifted me so greatly.

Let me get this straight - if you talk to your Money Honey and receive direction, guidance, or a check in the mail, it's self-sufficiency, but it you talk to Spirit/Source/God and receive direction, guidance, or a check in the mail, it's "lame"?

Interesting worldview... and rather limited perspective on prayer. (Maybe you had a bad experience with Sunday School so you started praying to money instead of God ;-) When we talk to money (or anything) and receive wisdom and guidance, isn't it the wisdom of Source coming through?

However, I think I do get your point. If we're waving the white flag and expecting something/someone to "rescue" us without participating in the solution or getting responsible about what we've created, we haven't learned anything. Then again, a god who would bail someone out with no communication, learning or participation in their own healing doesn't sound like a god I'd want to pray to anyway.

ah yes helplessness - I've finally got round to reading Martin Seligman's "Learned Optimism", in the chapter on Learned Helplessness ...

When I was 9 my mum was in hospital for most of that spring and summer. I cried and prayed every day and night for her to come home. By the time she finally did, I'd experienced for too long the inefficacy of those prayers. Of course there was no action I could take that would make a difference. The situation was outside of my control.

In financial terms and, as an adult, yes it's different - but I wonder if the legacy from those early years of feeling I could not effect change still lies with me now in some ways.

    Food for thought ... :-)

It's all a matter of perspective. There are well researched psychological benefits to regarding past circumstances as positive miracles and for feeling lucky in general (as if miracles happen to you all the time). It's a nice way to increase the effectiveness of gratitude and increase feelings of happiness.

I hear you, good point. I never have told anyone I was a survivor of such and such because that puts me in a slot I do not wish to be in. I do sometimes tell people as I proudly stand in front of them that following an accident my relatives were pushed to put me in a nursing home because doctors knew I would never be able to walk or look after my 2 children let alone myself, because the look on their face makes me smile. It took 5 months, but I walked out of the hospital and while being a single Mom and working with limitations was not easy, I so enjoyed dancing at both my children's weddings. And now I like being in the newbie small business owner slot better.
I have your workbook. While I listen to a marketing person tell me the challenges in selling my new guided meditation CD without my being a big name person and having no money for advertising, I keep my focus on your workbook and the number I know somehow I will sell to cover somes serious bills right now. I'm not yet totally hearing my MH, but since he looks like Christoper Reeve in 'Somewhere in Time' I so enjoy his company.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and reminding me it was my belief in me and getting up after a lots of falls that allowed me to learn to walk again, not just a wish and a pray.

I respect the persistence you place into your weblog. I wish I had similar drive :)

I sooo agree Morgana - same goes for creating the body of your dreams. It doesn't work to "pray for rescue" from the fat or the overweight and then continue to act in a way that creates more of the same. It Does work to first become an Inner Match to the body you desire and Then to take action towards it.

Which I relate to your creation of your Money Honey, and Then taking action towards creating/attracting/allowing that money to flow in. Either way you cannot get different Results without different Action.

    All good stuff!!
